I am pleased to announce the opening of our state of the art sterilization center and new panoramic imaging unit. The previous area and equipment, although they met all CDC standards for sterilization, was a bit dated and the work flow was cumbersome at best.
I designed a work area centered around the removal of a wall and opening the area. The design includes new cabinets, counter tops, flooring, paint, bigger sink with hands-free foot control, safer GFCI outlets, improved LED lighting, hands-free waste can, and hands-free towel dispenser. Now JJ and Coby Lynn can work more efficiently.
This renovation goes along with the purchase and installation of a new digital panoramic radiographic imaging system. The Carestream CS 8100 makes our entire imaging system digital. We have been using the small intra-oral digital radiographic imaging since 1999, but the panoramic unit was “old school” wet processed films.
The digitally processed images do not require a dark room so that was why we reconfigured the darkroom/sterilization area.
The digital panoramic digital images are much better with improved resolution and detail. A
nother advantage is that we can take outside the mouth bitewing screening images for people that cannot tolerate the inside the mouth technique. We can also image the TMJ’s temporal-mandibular joint with a clearer view of the joints.
All this is to better serve our patients and keep this practice up to date.
